==========

DSHORT is an MS-DOS utility that allows you to create special,
global shortcuts to MS-DOS programs. Once you create a shortcut you
can access it by simply entering its name in the command prompt
from anywhere.

For example, if you make a shortcut to C:\DOOM\DOOM.EXE then no
matter where you are, even if you're in drive A:, you can just type
"doom" and it'll launch C:\DOOM\DOOM.EXE.

DSHORT and the shortcuts you create with it can also be accessed
via the Run command in the Start Menu(if you're running it under
Windows, that is).

This is a ridiculously useful program and I'm genuinely proud of
DSHORT. If I could've released this in the late 80's it would've
made me millions, I tell ya.

-----------
1.1 UPDATE!
-----------

Fixed a severe bug that made DSHORT choke on paths over 25
characters long. DSHORT 1.0 should be totally disregarded.
Pretend it never happened.

------------
INSTALLATION
------------

Step 1: Extract DSHORT.ZIP to C:\. This should create the directory
C:\DSHORT and put the file D_INST.BAT in C:\.

Step 2: Put the line "call d_inst.bat" at the end of your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file. This simply adds C:\DSHORT to your PATH
environment variable, which is the magic that makes DSHORT
shortcuts accessible from anywhere. You could add C:\DSHORT to PATH
manually but I think D_INST.BAT makes it a little less annoying. Anyway, reboot.

Step 3: There is no step 3.

-----
USAGE
-----

DSHORT interactively walks you through the process of creating a
shortcut. So just run it!

-------------
COMPATIBILITY
-------------

I haven't been able to test DSHORT on anything but a PC running
Windows 98 SE. But theoretically it should be compatible with
MS-DOS 3.3 and up. And maybe even earlier versions of MS-DOS if
you don't use the call command.

-----------
FINAL WORDS
-----------

Well, that's it. Enjoy my miraculous magnum opus, DSHORT! If you
use MS-DOS(or maybe other flavors of DOS too?) then it's genuinely
a game changer.
