Hey there, this is my place to record thoughts and rants.

The absurdity of the web

June 6, 2024

The internet has become so complex, to the point it's almost laughable. Building simple websites requires a stack of various buzzword frameworks, massive corporate overlords that provide hosting (and equally massive bills) and teams of engineers, project managers, delivery leads, designers, etc. All to build things that used to be as simple as writing some HTML and PHP and throwing on a server.

Now of course these days we have truly impressive web applications, that absolutely require the insance technical iceburg that keeps them afloat. Things like Figma which simply wouldn't be possible without complex Javascript and backend services. But the truth is, most (nearly all websites), are not Figma, and could easily be built the same way we built websites 10-20 years ago.
