William Gibson / Canada–USA

The novel that defined cyberpunk.
Neuromancer introduced many concepts
that later became standard in hacker
and cyber culture: cyberspace,
console cowboys, AI conspiracies,
and corporate domination. Gibson famously
wrote much of the book on a typewriter
and had very limited experience
with computers at the time.
The word "cyberspace" first appeared
in his earlier story Burning Chrome,
but Neuromancer made it legendary.
The book won
the "cyberpunk triple crown": Hugo,
Nebula, and Philip K. Dick awards.
