i stopped enjoying christmas the winter my yaya died.
it was a slow, painful death from lung cancer.
my parents tried to soften the blow during a christmas party,
where they let me host a sleepover with my friends.
(it was not the support i wanted---
i needed to be left alone)
the holidays after, i locked myself in my room
went out to brush my teeth and go to the bathroom
but i stayed frozen in exile
it wasn't even cold.
